Douglas fir

Douglas Fir                         Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca            Suggested hardiness zones 4 to 6

Douglas fir are a non-true fir that comes from the western United States and western mountains.  There are two basic varieties, coastal and interior.  Our seedlings are of the interior variety which can withstand harsher conditions.

Douglas firs have dark to blue green soft needles and have a sweet fragrance when crushed.  They are a major selling Christmas tree in the U.S.

As mentioned above, they are not a true fir and are not related to the other firs we grow which are all from the genus abies.

Douglas firs tolerate a wide range of environments from extremely dry to moist sites.

The seed that we propagate for our seedlings is from Lincoln National Forest in southwest New Mexico.
